An Awesome Week

This last week, One Hope rolled up its sleeves and sweated together pulling off an amazing team effort. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who rallied together to make it all happen: Justin and Mike’s all–in effort, the UCF table team, the pancake party team, the cookout team, the kids team, the worship & production team, setup / teardown team, safety team, next steps team, and hospitality team. We were hitting on all cylinders and it was beautiful to see. To God be the glory!

“Oh, how wonderful, how pleasing it is when God’s people all come together as one!” - Psalm 133:1 ERV

Our missional challenge is helping move people towards God. This week, as a result of your team efforts, I saw it happen again and again. While that movement in people’s lives may not seem big to us, from afar, it is huge to them. Life change is ministry traction. It is momentum. It is missional success.

“God’s kingdom is like a pine nut that a farmer plants. It is quite small as seeds go, but in the course of years it grows into a huge pine tree, and eagles build nests in it.” - Matthew 13:31-32

I loved seeing One Hope’s flag being planted at UCF with our first ever beginning-of-semester info table. Then, I was so thankful to God as I saw students we met on campus show up at the One Hope Cookout.

One freshman who showed was a prime example. She had just landed at UCF with no spiritual community. But walking by our table on campus, she accepted Sour Patch Kids and an invite to our Cookout. On Sunday, there she was making friends. Wow!

At the end of the Cookout, another student walked up to me to say goodbye. He said, “I have never experienced something like this before. I am never leaving One Hope!”

I felt the excitement Thursday night as a team of 10 served chocolate chip cookie dough pancakes to 200+ UCF Cru students. It was even better to see students I met at the pancake party show up on Sunday.

We have UCF freshman who began calling One Hope home in the summer after an earlier Cru/One Hope pancake party. Several are already serving in on our Kids Team. And on Sunday, they brought new friends with them to the Cookout.

And finally, this week Donna and I had dinner with a couple who visited on Sunday who have been looking for a church. They were blown away by all the people who have talked to them and embraced them.

One Hope, you are special, and people sense it. The One Hope family is infectious. Kudos to you all and go God! Charge on!

P.S. Have you ever wondered if your job and all you pour into it Monday–Friday really counts for eternity? Then don’t miss this Labor Day Sunday as we study Ephesians 6:5-9 and what it means to have a live a “Godward” worklife.
