Update on the One Hope App

We launched our official iOS / Android app two years ago and have been continuously improving it ever since. In evaluating the app’s effectiveness for communication over this last year, we’ve weighed a number of things including financial cost, time to manage / maintain content, and user base.

After looking at all these factors, we’ve chosen to shift our communication strategy away from using the app as one of our communication tools. Instead, we are putting all of our effort now into a central hub – our website – effective immediately.

This means that the app will be cancelled as of September 6, 2019. For clarity, if you have the app on your device, it will remain but upon opening it, you’ll see an “app cancelled” message from our developer.

Here are 3 of the reasons for the shift from the app:

  • Simplicity: we want there to be a singular, central place to find whatever information people need; the app could never be the singular place because 35% of web traffic comes from desktop
  • Management: the app required separate content management from our website and other platforms which often resulted in information mismatches on our site and in the app; our new site is a singular, powerful
  • Cost: moving away from our app will save us over $1000 per year while not compromising our plan for excellent communication

The first question everyone asks will most likely be “where can I find ____?” The good news is that everything in the app can be found on our mobile friendly site including newssermonsevents, and more. And the best part is you can add an icon link to your homescreen just like an app!

Listening to Sermons

One note on sermons, because we know that many of you used the app to listen along. Yes the website has a great sermon manager where you can play episodes right from the site. But the BEST way to stay up to date with sermons is to subscribe to our podcast which is now available in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Play.

We really want to hear from you if you have questions or comments. Please let us know!
